My admiration for the women of Olympus does not allow me to discriminate.\u00a0<\/strong>Olympus is a special place.<\/strong> An autonomous place and as the locals proudly say, the only p<\/span>roduct they needed to import is<\/span>\u00a0sugar. Everything else\u00a0<\/span>is made by themselves. F<\/span>rom the bread, and the clothes<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0to their shoes (the well-known\u00a0<\/span>stivania<\/span>).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The woman of Olympus or the mother of Olympus, is for the village the most important\u00a0\u201ccomponent\u201d of its history, its culture, and the daily way of life.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The uniqueness of Olympus is due exclusively to the heroine “Woman of Olympus”<\/strong>. It is part of the history and folklore of the island.\u00a0<\/span>Olympitissa<\/span>, contributes daily, even\u00a0<\/span>these days<\/span>, to the rescue and continuation of the Olympus way of life\u2026<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On this trip, I met tireless women. From early in the morning, the wood-fired ovens of the village <\/span>spreading the aroma<\/span>\u00a0of hot bread and loc<\/span>al delicacies. They always work<\/span>\u00a0there<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0happy and smiling, wearing and highlighting their costumes with respect and pride. The village managed to survive due to their valuable contribution.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I will never forget the conversation of the <\/span>old man,<\/span>\u00a0in the cafe of\u00a0<\/span>Lentakis<\/span>, in the settlement of\u00a0<\/span>Avlona<\/span>, \u200b\u200bnorth of Olympus. They were snacking, gossiping and chatting, while in front of the<\/span>m. Inside the<\/span> small estates, the\u00a0<\/span>Olympitisses<\/span> were reaping with the scythe. At one point one of these old men<\/span>\u00a0decided to leave. “Where are you going? Your<\/span>\u00a0wife is still reaping,” informed him<\/span>\u00a0the others. “<\/span>Eee<\/span>\u2026\u00a0<\/span>ok, if it is like that, I\u00a0<\/span>will s<\/span>tay<\/span>\u2026” he replied and they continued\u2026<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We thank you “women of Olympus” because you keep the tradition alive and I bow to the greatness of your soul\u2026<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n
